  1. Wow! I want to thank Evan for the first angry film jag I have heard on the show. My abrasive laughter distracted my coworkers and may have won you guys some more listeners.

  2. Josh take that gun-toting, Bible-thumping, madman to task.

Lookin forward to the episode featuring Antichrist. Anyone can rate a movie, but you guys honestly make me consider films from different angles.

Perhaps either of you could share any thoughts on Capitalism in the mean time?

  3. Hi Ryan,

We haven’t heard from you in a while, I was beginning to think I had said something.

Thanks for the compliment on the show.

I haven’t seen “Capitalism” yet, and probably won’t. Though I’m a liberal, Moore annoys me to no end, and I doubt he’ll present a balanced picture. However, I may see it in the next couple weeks, as well as “Amelia”. Look for peripheral (individual) reviews in the “Indies” section of upcoming shows!

Thanks for listening and commenting. -Josh

  4. Ryan, I totally thought of you when I saw “The Invention of Lying”! I think you should see it and tell us how it holds up from the perspective of someone who wholeheartedly agrees with its message.

I like Michael Moore, but I don’t plan on seeing “Capitalism” anytime soon. There are far too many promising horror movies out this month to waste my time with something that might actually be important.

  5. Well that was one of the most convincing reviews you guys have had in awhile. Probably won’t bother with “Invention of Lying” and it might even make me see a Zombie movie for the first time ever..with my ultimate frisbee team, Well Flung Zombies.

  6. I can’t say I agree with your review of “Zombieland.” Aside from one thing (see below, spoiler alert), it did not defy any zombie movie conventions. I felt the survival rules were a tongue-in-cheek ripoff/nod to Max Brookes’ “Zombie Survival Guide” (which can be tongue and cheek itself). The one thing that surprised me: All the main characters lived. There were no glorious sacrifices or tragic deaths. I would go so far as to say this is the first family-friendly zombie film.

Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for “Where The Wild Things Are.”

  7. I feel like this movie is the logical next step to the zombie genre in the wake of obsessive zombie survivalist culture. In a way, it’s the genres answer to the works of Max Brooks and others like him. I don’t think it’s a rip of off “The Zombie Survival Guide” because allusions and homages to that book are implicit in almost everything about this film, especially its protagonist. That’s totally refreshing to me: it’s a step forward in the entire genre exactly when it needed to be taken.

  8. Josh, I was going to jab at you for how lovestruck/horny you seemed this episode. You raved about the chick in zombieland (and the other chick).

But then I saw the movie. And felt the same way.

    Cheers.

  9. Ryan,

    this episode?

    Josh

  10. I guess I fall into the category of zombie survivalist. I derive too much pleasure from the work of Max Brooks and have an irrational respect for the ideas he has published. That worked against me when I watched this film. I had a hard time laughing because I saw the filmmakers choices as reckless. True, having a strict set of rules and keeping to them will save your life in the event of a zombie apocalypse. But this film says you can have it either way. “Be reckless, there will be plenty of ammo!” There was a part of me thinking, “These filmmakers are putting lives at risk.” Yes, I realize how crazy that makes me sound. And the ward for longest comment goes to …
