Josh and Evan get meta with Judd Apatow’s third and latest film as writer-director, Funny People, wax poetic about 500 Days of Summer, and launch their Ridley Scott Appreciation Project with a review of Blade Runner.

Evan, I agree with Josh on the point that in the bungalow/guest house, Simmons was feeling the urge to run away. He started feeling trapped and like maybe he’d made a mistake and awasnt sure he wanted those kids in his life and seemed to be second guessing his desire and even ability to stay there. At that point we seem make a small character change/growth. He makes a conscious decision to not run, but to instead see something through. To eschew the behaviors of his selfish past. I agree that by the end of the film we haven’t seen great personal progress in him though, which IS sad.
If you talked about it I missed it, but did you know this film was a take-off of a period in George Chandling’s life? I believe that’s who it was. So in reference to your comment about this being Sandlers attempt at telling his own story and being a selfish jerk to the end, I (hope) think you’re wrong.
